Somewhat Flood Related Topic

Day 10 of my life living in the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs (my dad's office on the 4th floor). 2 weeks ago, I was living in my house in Pathum Thani. People were making sand-bags to prevent the imminent flood but little did they realized that all they hard work will go to waste. My mom stayed up all night looking outside and she said that the water came up from the ground. I woke up, well actually my mom woke me up, to evacuate. We have supplies and water to last for some time but we left due to when the flood gets too high and the neighborhood cuts the electricity. Many people had a swell October break. My October break was spent trying to get away from the flood. Breaks were meant for relaxation. I had NO relaxation in that week AT ALL! When the school closed for another week (to Oct 31) I thought I could get some relaxation. But instead NO I had homework here as a close friend. The I got buried under MORE homework. Saturday and Sunday were no good. My mom was making me study. Then today I checked Moodle, Edline, and Ms. Torie Website and there it is. A towering monument of homework. I tried looking up to find the top which I completely can't see. There should be an award for the teacher that gives out the most homework. That award will probably go to my Japanese teacher, Megumi Sensei. 2 days, Eiffel tower size homework. This probably had nothing to do with the flood but just some ranting, heck its related to me and how the flood affect my life, right? So back to talking about the flood. My dad apparently went to the Philippines and wasn't here when the flood strike my house which was a lighten burden since then we have only 3 people. Well not exactly. There was an extra 3 people. They were my mom's friend's family. My back was bloody (British slang) hurting when we finally got out and away from the flood. I stayed at my grandma's house in Din Daeng which was said to be one of the safest place since it was high. I been to my grandma's house before but never stayed for long. She lives in an old apartment which had some other old people living there too. The old people was always somewhat creepy to me since you need to repeat more than twice and louder every single time 'cause they couldn't hear you. But I think they were just joking around because when they play bingo (I went to watch since I had nothing to do) they can hear perfectly every single number. I think this is good enough since I got other work to do but if I have time I post another one about the impending flood.

  1. Kamo, I am both surprised and saddened to hear how the flood has affected you. It sounds like you have moved around a bit, and are now living in the MFA? It is possible you are the first student to ever make that claim. Interesting. Your keen observations about the "old people" add tremendous detail to the writing, making it my favorite part of the post. If you were to go back and add paragraph breaks, where would you put them?
Time permitting, please do post another piece about the flood. Your perspective is unique. I hope you and your family continue to stay safe.

  2. Kamo, this is Ms. Katharine.

Despite the severity of the situation and the way that you've been displaced, I couldn't help but laugh out loud in the internet cafe where I'm currently sitting. Seriously. Someone just shot me a nasty look! Heehee.

As with Ms. Torie, I appreciated the Bingo scene!

I liked the way you chose to organize your entry, by beginning with the passage of time. You then trace back the events that led up to the current situation. That said, by the end of the piece, I wasn't sure if you were still living in the MFA or if you were still at your grandmother's, so bored that you can't wait for the next Bingo game!

  3. Kamo I'm in the same situation as you. I know how you feel its exactly what i have experienced. I have been living at my uncle's house for 2 weeks. But since I got tons of homework like you I had to come to MFA too ,because thats the only place that i can access internet. Especially Japanese ( one of the hardest one)Megumi Sense has been smsing my mom for me to do my homework. I stay at MFA only the weekend ,because on weekdays people would come to work. Now 21/11/11 I'm living at MFA until water at my house is reduced ,but it seems like they are working on the roads and making paths, blocking water to flow onto the roads. Back to Japanese I had the same problem as you ,catching up with the homework there were so many of them ,which i had very less time. I agree with you about old people ,just like my uncle his ears are just terrible.

Hope this ends soon ( I also wanna go home)
